Our Teaching

Teaching By Example

The Greek word for example is “hupgrammos” (pronounced hoop- og-ram-moss) from hupo- “under” and “grapho” to “write”; hence the word literally means to underwrite. In its original context, this word referred to the tracing of letters, copying the writings of a teacher.

In its current usage, we see that the word “underwriting” is a term that is most often seen in the world of insurance and it means to contractually agree to provide protection over someone's life and property. In his life, Chris has been blessed by the Godly example of his parents, the ministries to which he has submitted, the leading of the Holy Spirit and the ultimate example, the life of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

His Parents

It is difficult for Chris to pinpoint the exact moment that Christ put a calling on his life because he has always felt Christ's presence in his life and practiced his faith. His parents, Fred and Thelma, who just celebrated their 50th Anniversary of their union in Christ, rejoice in God's grace fervently and openly on a daily basis. Chris believes that his life has been marked by an abundance of grace because of their Godly example.

“My parents have had the greatest influence on my faith because they have taught me by example and not by precept. I have learned from them:

What it means to have a commitment to God and a passion for obedience:

  • God is a faithful rewarder to those who diligently seek him; and
  • That demonstrating genuine concern for others is a hallmark of a true Christian lovewalk.”

Ministries of Influence

“And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, ‘Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth; and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.” (Matthew 22:16)

Teaching should be of God and not by men. The initial example set by Chris’ parents has been amplified by the teaching of the Word Chris has received at Rhema Bible Training Center, where Chris received his biblical training, and the Christian Cultural Center (CCC), located in Brooklyn, NY, where Chris has been a congregant for over ten years.

At Rhema, Chris learned to:

  • Have a better appreciation of the Word and the Spirit,
  • Seek the excellence of the things of God, and
  • Trust God by the way of faith.

“Faith is the highway that links you to anything that you desire in life. When you exercise your biblical beliefs you demonstrate your belief in God’s faithfulness.” -Chris Burge, 2003

At CCC, Chris has discovered that there is a standard of excellence in teaching, and that modern day Christians benefit from teaching that has practical life applications.

Mentorship Under The Holy Spirit

“Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the House of the God of Jacob; that He may teach us concerning His ways, and that we may walk in His paths.” Isaiah 2:3

To be a true imitator of God, the power of the Holy Spirit must be at work. It is the Holy Spirit that reveals to you personally the truth of God in your life. Therefore, Chris’s teachings are the work of the Holy Spirit, which he refers to as his #1 Mentor.

While the Bible teaches you God’s revealed will for our lives as Christians, it is the Holy Spirit that unveils His special will for your life and shows you the way to reach your divine potential. Specifically, Chris Burge teaches how to use the Bible and the working of the Holy Spirit to:

  • Give Birth to Your Uniqueness
  • Discover Your Inherent Talents and Gifts
  • Develop Bible-Based Beliefs
  • Face Natural Challenges Spiritually
  • Find Fulfillment in the Word of God
